Living in Balance with Motherhood: An Honest Motherhood Moment

honest motherhood moments- mom guilt
So I’m still feeling a little bit giddy from last night. I can’t help it, I was surrounded by some amazing mama bosses.
Last night, I decided to REALLY start my networking journey. And by that, I mean put myself in a room full of strangers that all look drop dead gorgeous, and seem to have conquered the world. Ya, it was terrifying.
I’m what you would describe as an extroverted introvert. I know, its an oxymoron, but it explains my sometimes awkward social behavior. Growing up on stage, I was a thespian and loved the dramatic arts, I know how to engage an audience and perform public speeches. Put me on stage to speak to a room full of people, and I won’t let you down. But, put me face to face in front of a stranger…. well I’m a babbling mess. “What ifs” start to fill my mind, and the thought of being judged clouds my focus. Anyone else relate?

Anyway, to say I was nervous to attend Vancity Business Babe’s annual #mamabossmingle is an understatement. But, I pulled my confidence britches up to my neck, tried a fun hairstyle** and smiled my way into the crowd. (** I must admit, I did this in hopes of creating a conversation starter, and you know what? IT WORKED! I had ladies come up to me complementing my hair, and before I knew it we were talking about kids, passions, you name it. To sum up, you should give this little trick a try at your next event) And guess what I learned from this whole experience… THEY WERE NERVOUS TOO! Go figure.

Opps!  But in all seriousness, I hope you can conquer any fears and

Which brings me to why I am so giddy, and decided to write this honest motherhood post. The women I met, and listened to speak last night, filled me with such passion and a” go getter” attitude I wanted to share something that I think all moms can benefit from.

Last Night We Talked About Balance

Last night, we talked a lot about balance, And how its a hard thing to manage in mom life. Whether you are a working mom, momprenuer or stay at home mom, we all struggle with this. When I was pregnant with my first, my mom
and I talked about this a lot. How one day, I might feel really overwhelmed with the tasks in front of me, or fall into whirlpool of mom guilt for not accomplishing enough. So here is an honest motherhood tip that I hope you can apply to your life. Above all, for me, I think it’s helped keep my sanity for the past five years.

The Good Advice: An Honest Motherhood Tip

It’s called the One A Day Rule. Meaning, get one thing done everyday. It doesn’t have to be some grand gesture like wiping all the baseboards in the house. It can be as small as making the bed. This was my “one thing” I did a lot of while suffering through the early stages of pregnancy.
And like I said before, I think this honest motherhood tip really helped me keep my sanity while keeping mom guilt at bay. After completing this task, and mentally reminding myself that this one thing is valuable for my family,  I always felt good.
It gives you a sense of accomplishment, and a lot of the time it gets the ball rolling to accomplish other things. Now, making the bed in the morning is what gets my day started, and I love doing it!

To get you started on the One a Day rule, I’ve listed a few things that routinely find its way onto my list.

  • make you bed/clean your room
  • clean the kitchen
  • do a load of laundry or put away if left over from day before
  • work out
  • make a nice dinner (something that involves a little more effort)
  • go to the park
  • create something with the kids
  • check something of the running to do list
  • grocery shop
  • garden
